Though the modern toilet revolutionized hygiene and sanitation, its novelty and functionality may be flushing precious resources down the drain. As the global population skyrockets and fresh water becomes more scarce, scientists are beginning to develop more efficient and less resource-intensive technologies to manage human waste.
